What PWP of an educator do you feel did a good job of representing himself or herself?
I feel that Drew Jensen did a good job representing himself. What did I like about his PWP? Drew seemed very down to earth and not arrogant at all. Drew comes across as someone that just loves being a teacher. What do you think could be improved? There could be more elaboration on his past as far as all the different age groups that he has worked with or unique talents that Drew has. What features of this PWP would you copy, and which ones would you change? I really like how Drew stressed that he has a goal to teach at the college level. That would be something that I would like to copy. I would change things by elaborating more on past accomplishments or special skills that I have. Following http://www.pearltrees.com/mhickey
I am going to use pearltrees.com because it seems to be very good for following groups. I am prompted to follow information on the NATA AND NSCA websites. The goal is to find more information on the field of athletic training. I also like the science base of the national strength and conditioning association. I feel both sites are quite helpful. I will be adding more sites as time goes on. What sites do you go to regularly to learn new things?
I usually go to NATA.ORG to learn what is new in the field of athletic training. In addition, I will sometimes go the AAOS website to learn what is new in the field of orthopaedics. I also go to the AAOEM website or American academy of occupational and environmental website to learn what is new in the occupational medicine setting. Are there authors or sites that you follow? William Prentice is an author that I will refer to when researching information about athletic training. I also will use the national strength and condition website to find new information on strength training. When does the internet or the web help your learning, and when does it distract from good learning for you? The internet in my mind is always a great tool for learning. I really do not use the internet for games or hobbies. The one way it may be a healthy distraction is when I listen to online music. How do I feel about technology and learning? I feel great about technology and learning. I just realize that I have much to learn in this area, and I need time to understand what is cutting edge at this time. What are some areas where you feel you are in your “sweet spot?
I am in my sweet spot and thriving whenever I am delivering injury care and working as an athletic trainer. I also am in my sweet spot when I am doing an ergonomic evaluation helping workers in the occupational setting. What are some areas where you feel you are totally out of your areas of strength? I am completely out of my element when discussing fashion or clothes. The problem is that I am color blind, and I am only able to see a few colors. Therefore I am in an area of weakness when I have to do anything that requires knowledge of colors. What are some thoughts on this with our group through the blog? I love how we should play to our strengths in order to learn the most and have the biggest bang for our buck. This makes perfect sense to me and is the best way to teach. It is clear that microblogging allows different students and professionals the opportunity to exchange ideas regarding various educational topics. I do not feel that is it similar to learning in a regular classroom. The classroom would be considered more straight forward and objective type learning. The interesting part is that each student may view certain types of educational materials slightly different and express this during the blog. For example, it is clear that not smoking is good for your health. My view is that it is best to avoid smoking all together. Another student may feel that one cigarette per day is fine and poses no real health threat. This difference in thoughts can spur a good exchange of ideas. In addition, microblogging gives each student the chance to learn little nuances of information from other students that they may not have ever heard before. In essence, micro-blogging is a good all-around learning experience.
In athletics, I view microblogging as the complete future of sports communication. I cannot think of a better way for fans to relate regarding their favorite quarterback in football or point guard in basketball. Micro-blogging will become more and more popular in the sports world. |
